Developed by Intelligent Systems, the creators of the beloved Fire Emblem and Advance Wars series, the single- and multiplayer turn-based strategy game Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. launches for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems on March 13. The game places players on the front lines of a series of intricately designed battlefields and requires them to use both brains and brawn to emerge from battle victorious. Players are thrust into the boots of some of the most original and unexpected playable characters ever assembled in a Nintendo video game. These agents of S.T.E.A.M. (Strike Team Eliminating the Alien Menace) are composed of literature- and folklore-inspired icons like John Henry, Tiger Lily, Tom Sawyer, Lion from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and many more – all led by Abraham Lincoln. Telefilm Canada is pleased to be funding three French-language feature films through the Canada Feature Film Fund (CFFF) for a total of more than $4 million. The films to be funded are Boris sans Béatrice, by Denis Côté, Mission Yéti, an animated movie by Pierre Greco and Nancy Florence Savard, and Votez Bougon—which will feature the well-known characters from the TV series Les Bougons—by Jean-François Pouliot. SOVO Technologies Inc, a Montreal-based supplier of closed-captioning and transcription, has announced the deployment of the results of its important research and development investments of the last few years, which leads to improved accuracy of closed captions produced in realtime through its proprietary speech recognition technology. The technological breakthrough, combined with best-in-class operational procedures honed in over the years at SOVO, will help yield closed-captioning intelligibility results that could never be attained previously with speech recognition systems. The intelligibility of closed captions produced for live programs, which depends among other things on the accuracy and the speed of the realtime audio transcription, is at the heart of some Canadian broadcasters’ regulatory obligations set by the CRTC since 2012. Atlantic Empire is an immersive multiplayer HTML5 gaming experience that captures the essence of a high-stakes Newfoundland fishing adventure with a combination of both strategy and skill-based gameplay, including in-depth information about show characters and locations. Telefilm Canada has revealed details regarding the course it intends to follow over the next few years, as set out in its strategic plan for 2015 to 2018. This morning in Ottawa, the Chair of Telefilm’s Board, Michel Roy, unveiled Telefilm’s strategic plan during a speech he delivered at Prime Time in Ottawa, an event organized by the Canadian Media Production Association. The plan, titled Inspired by Talent. Viewed Everywhere. (PDF), updates Telefilm’s commitment to support the industry so it can connect with target viewers on all screens, in Canada and elsewhere. DHX Television, the broadcasting division of DHX Media Ltd., is heading to the drawing board for more animation after ordering the new comedy adventure series Fangbone! from Radical Sheep Productions. It was announced today that production has commenced on 52 x 11-minute episodes of the animated series, based on the bestselling graphic novel series Fangbone: Third Grade Barbarian by Michael Rex.
