Following a successful collaboration last year, Women In the Director’s Chair (WIDC) and the Whistler Film Festival have officially launched the WIDC: Story & Leadership program, a new 4-month intensive for women screen directors focusing on fiction feature film and web series development that takes place in part at the festival December 2 to 6. Six producers from across Canada have been selected to participate in the Whistler Film Festival‘s annual Feature Project Lab, an intense two-phase business and creative content development experience for Canadian producers presented by the Whistler Film Festival in association with Telefilm Canada.

A team from the Vancouver Film School (VFS) has taken first place in the Entertainment Software Association of Canada’s (ESAC) first annual Student Video Game Competition. The VFS team, comprised of Melvin Kwan, Justin Ostensen, Charles Park and Brian Yich, has emerged as the victor in a strong pool of competitors representing schools from across Canada and all genres of video games. Post-secondary students and instructors in B.C. will be able to access more than 120 open textbooks as dozens of new skills training titles hit digital shelves this fall. Advanced Education Minister Andrew Wilkinson made the announcement at the third-annual BCcampus OpenTextbook Summit in Vancouver. The summit brought together members of the open textbook community, including students and instructors from Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom. The Banff World Media Festival has announced that Dana Brunetti, President of Trigger Street Productions, will sit down for a Feature Interview at BANFF 2015. Attendees will hear directly from the Producer of some of today’s biggest and best known award-winning content including the acclaimed Netflix Original Series House of Cards, and the feature films 50 Shades of Grey, Captain Philips and The Social Network. It’s lights, camera, action for the DOXA Documentary Film Festival, thanks to nearly $31,000 in provincial Job Creation Partnership funding, which is helping four people get behind-the-scenes work experience at the festival office. Last year, the Documentary Media Society non-profit, which runs the DOXA festival, received more than $25,000 in Job Creation Partnership funding to train four other workers, for a two-year total of $56,000.
