New Study Released On How Canadians Select Their Audiovisual Content

oldTVNew technologies are influencing the viewing habits of Canadian consumers with regard to audiovisual content and at the same time enhancing the availability of such content. A study, How Canadians Select Audiovisual Content (PDF), was commissioned by Telefilm Canada, the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC) and the Canada Media Fund (CMF). Based on results of focus groups convened across the country, indicates, notably, that Canadians are now increasingly choosing to watch TV series instead of feature films and confirms that most film-viewing is done through television. The study found, moreover, that consumers are increasingly seeking on-demand access to audiovisual products across a wide variety of platforms. Read the rest of this entry »

DigiBCvia DigiBC: Introduced in 2010, the Interactive Digital Media Tax Credit legislation is set to phase out in 2015 pending a review by the BC government in late 2014.  Our DigiBC survey indicates that from 2009 to 2013, 1,700 new jobs have been created and the industry has expanded to 5,700 direct jobs working in 142 companies in the video games sector. We estimate the government has paid over $100 million in cash based tax credits which have in turn resulted in a tax surplus of $135 million to the BC government. It is essential that the Interactive Digital Media tax Credit is extended at a minimum and better if it is enhanced if we want to become number one in Canada again. We need your support and help! Hot Docs Releases Learning From Documentary Audiences Findings Of National Market Research Study

A major survey of documentary viewing habits in Canada, the study was commissioned by Hot Docs and supported by the Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC), Telefilm Canada, the National Film Board (NFB) and the Canada Media Fund (CMF). SIGGRAPH 2014 Releases Emerging Technologies Preview

siggraph 2014SIGGRAPH 2014, 10-14 August, has released its list of 2014 Emerging Technologies highlights to be featured at this year?s conference at the Vancouver Convention Centre. Out of almost 90 submissions to the program, 24 were accepted, with more than 20 pieces from submitters outside of the United States. Each year, SIGGRAPH-selected emerging technologies allow conference attendees to play with the latest interactive and graphics developments. The program also presents demonstrations of research in several fields — like displays, input devices, collaborative environments, and robotics — through Talks and a close partnership with the SIGGRAPH Studio.
